JL Lift Kits

Has anyone ran the Evo 3.5" long arm kit yet? I am thinking that with 37", 5.13 gears, chromoly axles to delete the axle disconnect bs, currie anti rocks.

I don't think anyone other than EVO has a set installed or at least, not as of yet. The JL is NOT a JK and 5.13's would be way too high of a ratio for just 37's. With the all new 8-speed automatic, you won't even feel the need for a regear. Regarding chromoly shafts, nobody has any as of yet and you can't just "delete" the FAD. There's a lot of work that needs to happen inside the transfer case if you really want to do that. Last but not least, I have always found Currie Antirocks to be too stiff and will LIMIT your flex on the rocks and will be too soft and will provide too much sway in hard turns. This is to say nothing about how noisy they can be too. But then, that's just me.

Anyone know when/if EVO will develop their DTD for the JL?? Or for that matter have a Coil-Over setup??

They already have a standard coil over and are developing the DTD now. They're just taking their time testing it out before releasing it.

5.13s is what id recommend all day on a JL with 37s. Whatever you did on a JK you should go one gear deeper. You want to gear the JL for 8th. Its so low if you use the same gearing as you would have on a JK it will have trouble maintaining 8th. The deeper 1st and 2nd just make it more fun with the deeper gearing!!!

I made this little comparison for someone else. Both charts assume a 36.5" tire. On the left is a JK auto with 4.88s. On the right is a JL auto with 5.13s. With same tire notice how much lower top gear rpm is at 75? So you get amazing low end with deep first and 2nd but then low RPM hwy cruising. The gear spread is the miracle of the 8 speed. Hell if it was a toy I might run 5.38s and 37s. received_1907875495931540.jpg

This is assuming the 8speed auto. Can you tell me what you think the ideal gearing is for the 6speed manual in a Rubicon?

People still buy manuals? Lol

Well first gear in the manual is lower than it was in a JK. 6th is .72 which is higher than the .67 in the 8 speed but lower than the .83 in the JK auto. I think you are in between. 5th in a JL manual is .81. Me, I'd do 5.13 as being able to stay in 6th in hwy versus having to drop it into 5th is better. But that's just my opinion. 4.88 would work well too as again you are in the middle.

Yup! I kept seeing people say they were going to go to a lower gear on JL and I keep telling everyone gear for 8th not low end. Low end is just a bonus. A huge bonus!!

Know anyone who's making gears for the JL and that you'd recommend? Also, is there anything that'll need to be addressed when re-gearing? I remember back when we got our 2012, if you didn't recalibrate, the JK would go into limp mode.

Well I only know one place that has them readily available. It starts with a N and not your favorite place. They are Dana gears as they are only ones making them so far.

As for what to do, it won't go into limp like a JK. But I'd reprogram the gears with your tazer. In Moab folks that had swapped gears on Sport and Sahara and not reprogrammed had no issue. Some of the Rubicons who did that had some weird issues in 4 lo that once reprogrammed went away. Was weird and still trying to figure out why. Reprogram since u have the tazer and you'll be fine.

LOL!! Thanks for the info. I'd like to do this for sure but I can wait till gears can be acquired elsewhere. More than likely, I'd have Mel install them anyway.

I remember hearing about a tcase mod due to the front axle disconnect. Is this the case? Also, on the sport and sahara, does the front axle even have a disconnect?

Sport’s and Sahara’s don’t get the disconnect. Just the Rubi. JKS does make one now for them.

Sorry for the confusion, we're referring to the FAD or Front Axle Disconnect. This is NOT the same thing as the electronic "sway bar" disconnect.

The majority of them are gonna need the mod in my opinion. I've seen a few people claim they didnt but then eventually did. As more people do axle swaps and Dana releases their one piece shaft to remove the FAD I think we'll see. I'd bet on having to do it.
