JL Wrangler Rubicon Fender Gaps Filling Up with Rocks

I should note that I just got back from a week long trip and in the mix, we got into some desert mud which had the consistency of wet concrete complete with gravel aggregate. After cleaning the mud, I found the gap between the fenders and body filled with this gravel, some about the size of marbles and they were pretty difficult to remove. Hell, nothing short of removing the fenders will get a few of them out.

So we’ve said caulking will look bad, but it also sounds like we need something. Think the stuff in post 30 is our best bet? Anyone have a chance to try it yet?

I’ve got some time... but definitely interested in this (would love to have a plan to take care of it right when I take delivery so I don’t have any rocks that get completely stuck).

The welt on post #30 or something like it is what I plan on doing. I just need to find some time to pull my fenders off and clear the deeper rocks out first.

[emoji1360][emoji1360][emoji1360] awesome. Excited to see how this goes, if you’re up for sharing the results.

I understand you’ve got to pull your fenders to clear the rocks you have... do you think you’ll place the liner/whatever before you put the fenders back on, or wedge it in after they’re back on?

From what I'm seeing, I think the welt needs to be wedged in.

Might look terrible, might not. Plan on trying the clear so it's not visible.

We're looking at a nano ceramic type coating. We did it for our Mustang and it worked very well at shedding water and keeping bugs and road grime from sticking.

It's not just a Jeep, it's an amusement park on wheels.

It wasn’t an opinion. It was a fact. It will look horrible.

I was thinking this very thing when I saw those pics. The worst part is them wedged in there can also damage the paint. Hopefully not the see for you.

I’m planning to get some welting or similar before the JL sees much dirt/mud.

Now that you mention it, the flats on my JK are fitted against the fenders with 1/4" x 1/8" foam to keep debris out. I tore some of it up when I pulled the flares to do one thing or another last Summer. I had a hell of a time finding replacement stripping that would work (everything I could find was just too damn big or dense or both). I ultimately sourced it from my flare manufacturer.

Fix for rocks between the fender in the body

After about the fifth time of pushing on the fender and taking out rocks, I decided to figure out what I could do that would look good and would not allow rocks to wedge in between the fender in the body. So today I bought some white rope and wedged it in between that gap without pushing the fender out further than it needs to be then I will spray plastic dip/ flex dip just in the area where the white rope and no more rocks. This Is a perfect and no one will ever know. FCA can hire me for problem solutions!
