4-low not staying engaged?

Took my new JL out for a test wheel in some manure today and it wouldn’t stay in 4-low. Kept popping out. Had to hold transfer knob down to drive.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it a break-in thing, or is this a repair?

If you watch the “First Taste of Dirt” video,(at 4:00) Eddie says you need to be rolling a bit to shift to 4 low. (Per the manual) On the JK I’ve always shifted at a stand still... (Maybe I’m doing it wrong) Maybe the JL is different?

You need to be rolling just a bit and then you need to pull the lever firmly down. You can kind of feel once it fully engages.

Yeah, it fully engages when I do that—it just keeps popping out. Weird. I had to hold it down to keep it in low. It road perfectly until I let up pressure from the stick. Then after a random time (from 30 seconds to about 5 minutes) it pops back into neutral.

Definitely don’t want that when I’m on a steep hill or going up a boulder. I’ll let y’all know what happens with it, or if it turns out to be user error after all.

Sway bar problem

I just got my JL rubicon today... took it to the dirt to try out the 4 wheel drive and once I had it in 4h. I pressed to disconnect sway bar button.. and it blinked then said the sway bar was disconnected. But once I started driving it kept connecting and disconnecting over and over on its own!

How fast were you going? It reconnects at a certain speed ~20mph

I just went off roading a week ago and had the same thing happen to me. I just figured that i wasnt doing it right. Although mine would pop out almost imediately. But once i got it engaged it stayed in the rest of the off road trip. I made the mistake of trying to engage when i was on the trail trying to make a right turn, when i should have engaged in the gravel prior to the trail. Im heading back out in another week once bumper/winch show up.

Just like the JK, right? My question is: does the status indicator in the instrument cluster only indicate 4LO when it is properly engaged? IE, does that indication come on only after than that last little bit of lever motion?

Not like the JK. They want you to be rolling, and they want an embarrassing grinding noise as it engages. That way you look like a noob.

The 4-lo indicator does come on when properly engaged (yes, after that last thunk), but for me when it popped out, the indicator would go out although 40% of the time I’d still have drive capability. It wasn’t fully in neutral, but not fully out.

UPDATE:

I went out on the trails this weekend, and at first it wouldn’t stay engaged, as before. I held the transfer shifter down and it did fine. After an hour, it stayed engaged for the rest of the day.

But day two it wouldn’t stay down at all, and arm fatigue got me into some hairy situations. Plus my power steering kept going in and out, so it became untenable.

It’s going into service tomorrow, so we’ll see what they say.

ESC malfunctioning too, so my darling is a bit sickly.

Just an update, the Jeep is been into the dealership five times for this. I’m bringing it in for a sixth time. Getting the “we can’t reproduce it here” shenanigans. Made some videos, sent it in to FCA engineers. Will update when I have it all figured out.

Personally I think it’s just a doofus linkage adjustment issue, and the dealer just doesn’t deal with a driver who actually off roads.
