WRITE-UP : JL Wrangler Unlimited 4-Door MOPAR All Weather Floor Mats INSTALLATION

I know, I know, these are just floor mats - how hard can it really be to install them in a Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited and to the point where you'd need a write-up, right? Well, the short answer is yes, they are just floor mats but the good people at Jeep got a little creative on how they work. Specifically, the issue is with the front mats as they've now been designed to plug right into the drain ports on the floor pans and a tiny bit of work is needed to get them installed. Being that we bought our Mopar All Weather Floor Mats from Amazon as opposed to ordering them with our JL, we got a chance to install ours new and hope the following information will be helpful to you.

    What you will need
Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited 4-Door MOPAR All Weather Floor Mats
    • Utility Knife
    • Scissors
    • Flathead Screwdriver

You can order a set of these floor mats here:
    http://amzn.to/2odRwZa

Here are a couple of shots of what they look like right out of the box. First up, the front mats.

And, here's a shot of the rear mats.

On the front mats, this is what the drain ports look like from the top.

Looking at the bottom of the mat, you can see how the drain port is long and designed to extend through the floor pan.

    Instructions
    1. After opening up the box, the first thing you'll need to do is cut off the warning tags attached to the front floor mats. These tags are secured in place with zip ties and a pair of dykes or scissors will be needed to cut them off.

    2. Starting from the passenger side front of your JL Wrangler, remove your existing floor mat by pulling up on the corners where they're plugged into the carpeting below.

    3. It may be hard to see at first but if you feel around a bit, you should be able to locate the pre-perforated hole that was made in your JL's carpeting from the factory.

    4. Lift up the upper edge of the pre-perforated piece of carpet and then cut the attached sections of it using a utility knife as shown.

    5. With the carpet hole removed, you can now see the rubber drain plug.

    6. Using a flathead screwdriver, carefully pry one edge of your rubber drain plug up and out of the floor pan and then remove it.

With the rubber plug removed, you can see straight down to the top of your JL's frame rail.

    7. Plug your Mopar All Weather Floor Mat onto the nubs on your carpeting.

    8. Use the palm of your hand to firmly push the drain port into the drain hole on your JL's floor pan as shown.

    9. Insert the factory rubber drain plug into the floor mat and repeat steps 1-9 on the driver side.

    10. Moving to the rear of your Jeep, remove the existing floor mats, place your new Mopar All Weather Mats in their place and then begin assembling them by slipping the teeth on the driver side mat into the slots on the passenger side mat.

    11. Now, push the holes on the driver side mat onto the circle bumps on the passenger side mat to secure everything in place.

    12. Plug your Mopar All Weather Floor Mat onto the nubs on your carpeting and you're done.

    Great write up!

I really like the details and neat functional features FCA did into designing the JL.

Now I gotta get these floor mats.

My rear mats, installed from the factory, are not one piece but two—and don’t cover the drive shaft hump.

Wonder if mine come installed or if I will have to install them. Ordered them with Jeep. They do look awesome, heavy duty.

Anything on a cargo area mat? Looks it comes with, as yet unavailable, trail rail kit.

    Nice write up.

I'm hoping they'll come out with something but I haven't seen anything as of yet.
