I’ve never had to replace mine on coil overs. I’m not easy on it either.

Why are you running Johnny joints on coilovers?

Nah. We all have our levels of opinions, but I tell you what, I've been around these guys here long enough to find good solid information even if it hurts someone's feelings. Jeeps aren't the cheapest hobby and I'd rather hear the hard truth prior to spending my money. Maybe that's just me.

When I got my Jeep to get back off road after being out of it for a few years, I checked out all the Jeep forums I could find.

I settled here at Wayalife, and it has become my Jeep family. Sometimes things go off track, but the knowledge and top flight information is better than all the others with many competing opinions and no way to know good from crap.
If someone posts something here that is not good, it gets called out for what it is. Sometimes it gets a bit overboard, but the point is that crap doesn't get by and cause people problems.

Don’t get me wrong. I am in NO way saying it was an issue. Maybe I’m a complete dumbass and don’t know how to rebuild a Johnny joint. I am stating MY experience with Johnny joints on numerous occasions. Best joint on the market in my opinion. Everything has its limits. The jk also had a 426 hemi and 42” pit bulls with my right foot.

Hey, you broke a Dana 80. I'm not surprised at anything you might be able to break after that. Obviously you play harder than most.

Lol if I was to say that then they forum wheelers would go the fuck off about me trying to be a badass with no proof of anything so ima just keep to myself on the issue.

Buttttt back on track I have no experience with rock krawler parts, got a buddy running their springs and he claims they are rough riding. He is also sitting on 41.5’ pit bulls so ya gotta take that into consideration also.

Or you could just tell us the story of how it happened.... Breaking a ProRock 80 isn't like getting a flat tire or anything like that.

No cool story. As far as I know I broke it in Disney at the big meat run. Didn’t know it was broke until I got it back to the shop and was doing some maintenance(rebuilding Johnny joints 😂) and coilovers and bypass’s and a broken rcv. Had the rear end out and decided to pull the cover to change the fluid and 💥 broken ring gear.

You were rebuilding Johnny joints every month? Yeah, that didn’t happen. Bullshit.

Does this help my opinion? How many do you count? I damn sure didn’t pull them all apart and rebuild them for the fucking fun of it. These were rebuilt right before the Disney run and then getting rebuilt right before the palo duro Jeep challenge with a hand full of local wheeling trips in between.

If your really tearing it up like that, why not just Swap them to an FK Hemi joint? I’m guessing it’s mostly the rears going out due to HP and heavy foot.

Rear lowers got 1.25” fk with 2” 7075 aluminum links from WOD and the front lowers got 1.25” fk heims with 2” .250 wall dom after the Jeep challenge.

Also did a traditional 3 link on the front trying to alleviate any more geometry issues.

The Fab work looks good!

On the broken ring gear, it looks like the pinion walked in a bit under load based on the tracks on the carrier.
Did you find out why it did?
Was a crush sleeve or a solid spacer used?
I ask because I have seen crush sleeves collapse under extreme load, letting the pinion walk in and out, throwing the set up out the window, leading to a broken ring gear. Not on a Dana 80 mind you, but the mechanics of it would be the same.

I sent it off to get the ring and pinion replaced so I’m not positive on the prorock 80 if it’s a crush sleeve or not.

Here’s the reason for the new crossmember and 3 link.

Artec sent me the wrong cross member so I had to build my own mounts for the lower control arms.
