How's the build coming, Doubletap? Did I see you coming down 24 with a color-matched front bumper this weekend?? If not, someone is rolling around with a huge Mojito JLUR that's done a lot of paint work...

I'll be darned. I was up that way over the weekend, but no painted bumper and I'm still on stock wheels, tires and suspension. Must have been somebody else? Funny... There's a few posts with people stockpiling before their Jeep arrives, but I've got a stockpile sitting next to my Jeep. LOL. I'm up to my eyes in coilovers, long arms, tires, beadlocks, brackets, bolts and washers. About the only thing that I don't have for my build is time.

It was my birthday about a week ago, and this arrived in the mail yesterday...

My wife was kind enough to get me a 67 Designs "JL Mount Rail Edition".

Straight Out of the Box.

Liberated from the plastic.

Here you can see the backside of the rail that has the 3M VHB tape. Also you'll note three holes on each side tab, one for the factory screw and two outer holes for additional mounting screws (included).

As the written instructions and install video on the manufacturer's website are pretty thorough, I won't bother with an installation write-up except for the fact that I did trim the rubber tray to fit nicely under the rail (not included on the manufacturer's website).

Here is the rail installed with two 20mm T-Track balls.

Rail with attachments, including the "small" Carbon Fiber Arm and the medium Metal Universal Holder

The Universal Holder grips our Samsung S8 and S8+ phones very tight. I don't think there's any way that this holder would let our phones drop. Although you can't see it in the pictures, the holder is lined with rubber on the surfaces that the phone touches.

The fit and finish of the components in this system really are exceptional. Of course I don't have any experience with the durability and longevity yet, but I'll update as necessary. The attachments are easily turned from horizontal to vertical, and can be adjusted to many different positions. So far I like this position, but I reserve the right to change my mind at any time. LOL. I may use the other T-Track ball for a GoPro.

WOOT! This came in the mail today...

20190310_124346-1280x960.jpg

I financed to take advantage of an additional $1000 discount. Had to hold the account for 6 months. All in all I paid about $100 in interest before paying it off.

So although I've had lots of parts for my JL that have been put on hold due to time constraints and cold weather, I have also been hampered by the availability of replacement parts for my beadlocks. When mounting the Coops to the XD229 Machetes the first four went well, but the the fifth and final wheel had some problems. Several of the threaded inserts were not fully seated and were raised above the mounting surface. Some were even broken...

I contacted Marcus at River City Offroad (my point of purchase) who reached out to Wheel Pros for replacement inserts. Well, I lost track of time, a few weeks went by and the inserts never arrived. An email to Marcus resulted in him procuring a full replacement wheel shipped directly from Wheel Pros. Unfortunately the replacement wheel came with an insert so damaged, I couldn't even thread a bolt into it.

I hit the insert with some heat to break the red threadlocker and backed it out with an extractor. Comparing it to another insert it looked as if it was broken off during the manufacturing process. Another email to Marcus, and I ended up with a bag of replacement threaded inserts by the end of the week.

Here is a picture of the broken insert that I pulled out of the rim (left), an older insert that I had in a drawer (middle), and a replacement insert that was sent from Wheel Pros (note that the replacements came with red threadlocker already applied).

What a pain. At least the weather is nice today.

You can pick up those inserts at fastenal too.

That's good to know, thanks. Had I thought of that, then I would have just fixed the first wheel myself rather than waiting for replacement inserts.

Tire carrier looks sweet,on my wish wist.

I'm really satisfied with the looks and the function also. The hardest part about it was the cringing that I had to endure while pulling the rear passenger panel off. It's held on with all sorts of different fasteners just waiting to break. It was below freezing outside and about 40 degrees in the garage when I pulled it, so I took it for a lengthy drive with the heat blasting to warm up the interior of the Jeep and let my kerosene heater warm up the garage for a couple of hours to ensure nothing was too brittle before I pulled it. Panel clips cause me more anxiety than shelf roads. LOL.

Although I do like the look of EVO camera/CHMSL relocation bracket, the T-9 TORX screws that need to be taken off to remove the bracket assembly (including the CHMSL & camera) anytime the spare is removed are a major pain in the ass. Those suckers are super tiny.

Does anybody know if the Dual Threaded Lug Bolts included in the Mopar Center High Mounted Stop Light Relocation Kit (p/n 82215349) will work with XD229 Machetes?
