Start stop unavailable. Service Start Stop System

I see a few have had intermittent non functioning start stop system, but apparently mine has gone completely down/haywire. It came on after my first oil change and flash update. At first it was just that annoying A with a circle around it. Then it started not engaging in Reverse and Drive. It would flash that the start stop system was unavailable and to put back in to park. Through this week it has become more frequent in not engaging once I shift in to reverse or drive. I scheduled a service and took it in today. I was told that they didn’t “have time” to properly diagnose, and needed more time to get to a harness in the door?

I could go off on scheduling an appointment and then being told they didn’t have time, but I’m a little more perplexed on what a wiring harness in my door has to do with the Auto Stop System.

Hopefully Monday I have some “real” answers.

Thanks for reaching out, I picked up my JL yesterday. I don’t have any real information other than it is a latch in the door that is supposedly on back order. If it would still help I can send you my vin

I heard from my tech on Monday and they are still saying it’s in the door. In fact they asked me if I had taken my doors off. I have not, yet, but I am interested in what would have happened if I had?

They told me to pick up my Jeep and that they were waiting for a “door latch” I was told this had popped up as a problem and they are waiting for a part that is back order.

At least my Jeep is drivable!

Interesting and sounds plausible that it could be a door switch. I know that the hood has a switch as well and there are some people who've unplugged it just to kill the auto start stop system. Of course, you do still get the light on your dash when you do.

Does anyone know if there is a true fix for this issue? It sounds like there are a number of failures that trigger the code but those should all point to one main fixable point in the PCM...

My 2018 JLUR with a tick over 20k miles started doing it out of nowhere and it is annoying as all get out to try and check every connection and door switch and fuse and you get my point!

My start/stop quit working & the dealer replaced both batteries due to low voltage. Mines a 2018 though so it has a couple of years on them. I’d unplug the wiring harness on that door to see if it goes away.

I drive around 10 mile trips on average. I noticed mine would usually state the battery was charging and ESS was unavailable (which was fine with me). I tested both batteries and they load tested good. I think my short trips don’t always fully charge the batts. If I hook up the Battery Tender and top off the batteries the ESS works fine. I’m thinking during the warmer months this won’t be an issue.
