Steering Safety Recall - U48

That’s pretty crazy! What’s also crazy is they know which vehicles have it and that it will be a problem.

I know, right! It's like they knew Bob was on shift or Robot #6 was acting kind of funny that day. I checked my VIN and it didn't show up. I have talked to others who've been complaining about their steering and wonder if this is related.

Good to know. I have seen people report crazy steering issues.

My vin doesn’t show for anything - yet

Mine showed up and I got a couple notices. Taking it in tomorrow. I did a quick look over the intermediate shaft and it looked good. But it could be under the spline boot and I'll gladly let the dealer look it over.

OEMs and suppliers are required to track production lots by date and shifts on all components going into a motor vehicle just for this reason. Trust me, unfortunately, I know from first hand experience.

It's not just a Jeep, it's an amusement park on wheels.

Not surprised though on this one. My JK had a sloppy intermediate shaft. I had to inject grease with a needle into the boot. Once I filled it up the clicking and slop went away.

Mystery Machine

Funny, weird, odd and strange.

I had a really hard time getting our JL insured because the insurance company could not verify my VIN. Now, I put my VIN into the website to see if our Jeep is affected by the recall and the website showed this message: An error occurred with your request. Chrysler Group LLC does not recognize your VIN."

Thanks Obama! :(

So the dealer checked my Jeep this morning. Yup the shaft needs to be replaced. No parts until September.......

I got busy with a work call and forgot to ask about safety. I have a call back in to hear them tell me if I am safe.

Hi captainrandal,
We would like to look into this further and see if there is anything we can do to assist in the part delay. Please send us a private message with your VIN, phone number, current mileage and servicing dealer.
