Rattle/clunking In Rear End Mopar 2" Lift

I have a rattle/clunking sound coming from the rear of my Jeep, I think on the driver side, but I'm not sure. It sounds like something is loose. Even if I roll over the lip of my garage floor, I can hear it. It is greater when I go over it again in the opposite direction. I'm planning on taking it to my dealer to check and retorque everything and look it over. I've shaken the track bar, stabilizer bar, drop links, springs, and lower control arms, and nothing feels loose or looks loose to the touch of the hand. The drive shaft coupling looks good, too.

When I drive over small imperfections in the road, it sounds like a pretty good rattle.

Any ideas? It didn't do this before the lift or when the lift was first installed.

I checked the lower shock mounts and they feel solid, at least to my hand. Nothing appears loose. I can't see the top, though. The driver side top very well could be the culprit.

If you bounce the Jeep manually by pushing on the bumper, can you duplicate the sound? Also, a rubber mallet is a good tool for finding noises if you don't have one. You can just go around hitting things and can usually find the culprit quickly.

I bounced it and couldn't duplicate it.

Good idea with the rubber mallet. I've got to snag one. Maybe Harbor Freight will have one. Thanks!

Wow, good thing you caught it! Thanks for reporting back on this too.

Well, I goofed and overlooked a basic rule. Always go back and check/retorque bolts when putting a lift or any other mod on the Jeep, at maybe 500 or 1000 miles after installation. I've got about 2800 miles on the lift and one good off-road trip. That off road trip is where I think I really worked it loose. I began to hear the noise after that.

Live and learn! Hopefully somebody reads this and learns from my Homer Simpson Doh! moment!

I was wondering if adjustable track bars are needed with the mopar 2 inch lift? I hate it when my tires stick out further on one side.

My axles measure dead center, when measuring the outside of the tires to the outside edge of the fender flares, so if they are not centered, it is imperceptible. One thing that I think is critical is to have it aligned according to the specs in the instructions. My dealer did that when they installed it. Mine look perfectly centered and there is no "JK lean." So in my case, I don't see what adjustable track bars would do for me.

My JK has a 2" AEV spacer lift. It looked like it was dog-legging down the road. I had a shop set up to install adjustable track bars. When they got it, they decided to do an alignment first, and that fixed it. It looks and tracks straight and those guys saved me the cost of the adjustable track bars.

Your mileage may vary, but I'm pretty convinced that unless it is a huge lift, you might be able to get away with the factory track bars, if the alignment is right. My experience is limited to my two Jeeps, though.
