Freaks and Geeks

I've heard Arkham Horror is a great game, but I've never had the chance to play it. As fate would have it I've got Eldritch Horror. LOL.

Yeah this 3rd edition is solid for sure. It’s very similar from what I remember cause last time I played Eldritch was about a year ago. I’m gonna buy Eldritch but haven’t played Arkham enough to need another one, there’s so many situations and possibilities that I don’t think I’d ever run into the same one. Mansions of Madness is another one we’re gonna get later on down the line.

Mansions Of Madness 2nd Ed. is a really entertaining game that I would highly recommend. As a matter of fact, we started a session last night. This one was a long campaign (5+ hrs), so we split it into two sessions.

Last night.

This afternoon.

We've got the main game with optional expansions. I'm missing a couple of the boxes in this picture.

MOM is app assisted. Although you don't need a TV at the table like our set-up, you'll definitely need a tablet for others to share so players can complete interactive puzzles. A phone will be too small. We use a tablet, and mirror it to a cheap LED TV at the end of the table.

MOM 2nd Ed. is on sale at Amazon for $80 right now.

Your set up is pretty legit! Didn’t know that MoM had that many expansion packs but good to know. Yeah sometimes you have to split up that game time, my wife and I will start it and usually have some kind of lunch or dinner break in between. Really makes the time go by that’s for sure.

If you really want to go down a rabbit hole, try acquiring all the expansion packs for Descent: Journeys in the Dark... 40+.

Today we broke out the 25 pound behemoth that is Gloomhaven.

20200420_220042_copy_1024x768.jpg

This tabletop legacy dungeon crawler for 1-4 players was released in 2017, and is currently ranked as the #1 game of all time on BoardGameGeek. Gloomhaven has a relatively steep initial learning curve. However, with over 1,500 cards, as well as map pieces, cardboard standees, tokens and other accessories, it offers a lot of replayability for the money. It is in family's top 5 favorite games. The Kickstarter project for Frosthaven, the follow up to Gloomhaven, just passed the 8 million dollar mark to become the 11th most funded project in Kickstarter history (the initial goal was $500,000). Frosthaven is slated to be released March 2021.

The following pictures represent a small sample of what is included.

I was thinking last night that I should recommend some games that are more easily accessible by casual players. The first that came to mind was Ticket to Ride. I consider this a gateway game. It is a step away from the more traditional games such as Monopoly, Yahtzee, Clue, Etc, however can lead to diving deeper into non-traditional games.

In Ticket to Ride, the player collects a variety of cards allowing them to complete sections of track with plastic train tokens to gain points. Further bonus points can be gained by completing special city-to-city objective cards. This game can be learned in less than 15 minutes.

Hngd

Happy new game day. Found this on the porch today. Haven't played it yet, but I've seen some good reviews... not to mention the packaging sure is purdy... and I got it for less than half MSRP.
